It sounds ridiculous, but it's amazing and quite dark with plenty of murder and mayhem. Think Aristocats, but the talking, singing animals are the familiars of various cultists and monsters. It's a great stand-alone.Ī Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny, this is like a grown up Disney film. In my opinion, the best Shadowrun book ever written. It's like Casablanca meets Chinatown with a few elder gods and monsters thrown in. A bit more laid back than Blake, more like Law and Order to Blake's The Shield if you get my drift.ĭoesn't have a female lead, but if you like supernatural noir, this book from the ShadowRun fiction series is fantastic - 2XS by Nigel Findley. Bitter, lady gumshoe detective with macular degeneration teams up with a vampire to fight supernatural crime. ![]() I really loved the earlier Anita Blake books, the ones that were more supernatural noir detective stories, rather than romances.
